This civic gateway to northern Vancouver Island has long enjoyed a sterling reputation among anglers from all corners of the globe. The lion's share of visitors arrive in the warm, fairly dry spring, summer and fall. It is named after the pioneer Jose Goncalos, a native of the Madeira Islands who settled in the area in the early 1900s. Today, Madeira Park is the main shopping centre for the Pender Harbour region, with banks, a large supermarket, Government liquor store, pharmacy, hardware, and several smaller shops. Madeira Park is located on Pender Harbour off Highway 101 on the Sunshine Coast of BC.
